“If you’re not happy and fulfilled ask yourself what you could to change that!”
How many of us have been brought up to believe that happiness is achieved through external influences; that happiness is related to something or someone. In other words good things happening to you or you having control over things happening to you determined your happiness. However, there is a danger with allowing outside factors to have an influence over your happiness.
If you connect people and things or stuff to happiness, you’re constantly craving that attention and approval of others to make you happy and validate you.

- Once I have the house of my dreams I’ll be happy
- Once I lose weight I’ll be happy
- Once I have the right car I’ll be happy
- Once I have the right job I’ll be happy
- And the classic; once I have enough money then I’ll be happy…
All the time you connect your happiness with something external you will not be happy NOW!
Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with setting goals to achieve in the future, in fact you could have all those things on the list as future goals, but none of them will actually MAKE you happy!
What really makes happiness?
Feelings of happiness come from within, that you feel with every fibre of your being. It is the result of showing others love and compassion; about taking loving care of our own feelings and needs. It’s about being in the moment and appreciating a lovely flower, the sound of the waves crashing against the shoreline, the sunset or your children’s laughter. Happiness is about being grateful for who you are and what you have in your life, rather than focusing on what you don’t have.
Happiness is a simple choice that you can either choose to do or not to do every minute of everyday. It’s not something that happens to you, it’s a feeling that comes from within. So decide right now to be HAPPY! Spend some time making yourself aware of what you attach happiness to. If you notice it’s something external change those thoughts and move into the present moment; make yourself aware of your surroundings and let those feelings of love, compassion and gratitude for yourself and other wash over you!
