You are what you think you are…

Buddha hit the nail in the head when he said “The mind is everything. What you think you become.”  To tell you the truth I’d never really thought about it until recently, but that statement is incredibly accurate – “you are what you think you are”.

How many times have you been to a job interview or met a really nice person that could be a potential boyfriend or girlfriend, only to think “I’ll never get it” or “They’ll never call me back” and then BAM! what do you know, the genie in your life says “your wish is my command” and you don’t get the job or they don’t call you back!

But would it have made a difference if you had thought right from the off, “yes this is a little bit of me, they love me, this is a match made in heaven” etc. and you genuinely believed what you’re thinking and saying?  I believe it would, and the reason I say this is simple.

Take at Eyore for example!  Yes him from the Hundred Acre Wood; friend to Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Christopher Robin and the rest of the Hundred Acre Wood gang.  Eyore is always down because he thinks he is.  He brings the mood down talking with a glum tone and (un)happily tells anyone, who will listen, that nothing good ever happens to him.

I’m sure we all know someone just like that in our world (it might even be you); someone that never has a good thing to say about anyone or anything, and can never see the bright side of anything.  The kind of people that you don’t want to be around for too long in case their gloomy vibes rub off onto you. A ‘mood hoover’ as I like to call them! But just think how life could be different, just by looking for the positive in things and raising vibrations?

So if you are one of those people that can easily get down by the state of the global community or the weather or maybe you just want to make your already super-duper life that bit more exciting and cool then try this exercise on for size and see how your days goes:

Inention exercise

  • Before you get out of bed in the morning, take five minutes to imagine or intend your day ahead. The traffic is light, there’s no queue at the coffee shop, there’s a parking space right outside the office  … the list goes on
  • So close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, then settle your breathing into your intention and start each of your intentions with the words “I am …” so for instance “I am going to get a parking space outside the office” or “I am going catch my bus with time to spare” or “I am lucky with the traffic being so light this morning”
  • Open your eyes; now go about your day and witness the magic happen!

And if you find yourself slipping into a negative mind-set throughout the day, take a moment to deliberately shift your thinking.  Take a few deep breaths, bring yourself back to NOW and remind yourself of your good intentions.

Of course life isn’t always rainbow and unicorns (oh how I wish it was) and sad and bad stuff does happen from time to time, but if you can adopt a sunny positive frame of mind you will be able to work through these challenges much more optimistically.

After all as the comedy legend that is Billy Connolly says; “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes, so get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little.” and that is so true!
