More Tarzan than just Zen!..

Move over meditation you have been eclipsed by the “supersized” dynamic relaxation of Sophrology!

giphy1Sophrology is more like what Matthew McConaughey does in Wolf of Wall Street!  Think meditation on acid. More Tarzan than just Zen!

Developed in the 1960’s in Spain and with its origins in Yoga, Sophrology has now jumped the Chanel and landed on UK shores courtesy of (amongst others) Dominique Antiglio and her book – The Life Changing Power of Sophrology out on 19 April – and who runs BeSophro in Mayfair.

The word Sophrology comes from Sos meaning harmony: Phren meaning consciousness: Logos meaning the study of. The Sophrologycentreonline.com describes it as…

“Sophrology is a structured method created to produce optimal health and well-being. It consists of a series of easy-to-do physical and mental exercises that, when practiced regularly, lead to a healthy, relaxed body and a calm, alert mind.”

Indeed, the exercises are very simple, are yoga like but with an edge. They are also very mindfulness like too, but again with an edge. Sophrology is apparently brilliant for those that have trouble sleeping, along with support of your general wellbeing.  I’ve had a go and I felt really relaxed afterwards but also energised which I wasn’t expecting.  Kind of like having a relaxing mini massage!

Check out the Sophrologycentreonline.com YouTube channel to try the exercises out for yourself or the website for more details.
