Mental health is indiscriminate…

As we learn today that Kate Spade – she of the gorgeous bags and accessories – has allegedly committed suicide my heart sinks a little.

This sad story brings home, to me, the need to seek help if you’re considering doing something final. I know it’s not easy to admit you need help and support – especially if you’re male according to recent research – but there are people that can help you.

If you’re reading this and you see changes in one of your friends, just have a conversation with them. It might be that that one sentence makes all the difference to their day or how they feel. It might be that someone has just never asked the question.

It is OK to talk about mental health; no one will think any less of you. Nothing is ever as bad as it seems, it’s just that you are up close to the issue. Totally immersed in it. I know I have been there on the outside looking in.

Regardless of all of the above, people can only be saved if they want to be or if those around them know about the inner turmoil.

Until next time, look out for each other.
